Summary:
The Charter Communications office currently seeks a Senior Network Engineer for our Spectrum Enterprise Engineering and Operations Department. Below please find a brief description of the essential duties and responsibilities required to function successfully in this position.
The Sr. Network Engineer will be responsible for monitoring, managing, and ensuring stability of the local/wide area network infrastructure technologies to provide high availability, fault tolerance, and scalability to effectively and efficiently support mission critical business systems. Demonstrates a high level of competence in LAN/WAN technologies, routing and switching platforms, troubleshooting critical issues, and coordination of implementation. Represents the Engineering Department working closely with regional Architects and Engineers in designing, modeling, and implementing new technologies within the division.
Major Duties &
Responsibilities:
Day to day network performance monitoring of the Access, Edge and Core Networks
Troubleshoot and resolve service level and/or critical and system related issues
Document projects including scope, costs, schedule, testing and terms of delivery to ensure project is completed with the highest level of quality, on time and within budget
Deployment and maintenance of network monitoring, analysis and reporting tools
Able to analyze network problems and conduct fault analysis / diagnosis
Work with vendors to determine requirements for network integrity
Perform the duties of a team lead for projects and oversight.
Mentors and trains other Engineering personnel in key elements of networking systems
Provides technical guidance to other support organizations within Spectrum Enterprise
Required
Qualifications:
Expert knowledge of Layer 2 technology, including VLANS, QnQ, 802.1Q.
Expert knowledge of IP routing, including OSPF, ISIS, BGP.
Proficient in Metro Ethernet Forum standards including EPL, EVPL, ELINE, ETREE, ELAN.
Document all core alarm points are being properly monitored and maintain accurate and detailed core circuit design records and drawings. This includes ensuring records are updated for any as-built or service restoration changes.
Expected to act as a team lead, and mentor for Network Engineers.
Other duties as assigned
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Information Systems, or other related field or equivalent work experience. MS, MBA, and/or Certifications in networking (CCNA/CCNP, JNCIA/JNCIP, NRS1/2), project management, quality improvement (Six Sigma), or similar disciplines (ITIL) preferred.
Related Work Experience
5
years in Data Network Engineering and/or Architecture/Standards Development teams in a high paced, dynamic Service Provider environment
5
years operating or engineering Ethernet, IP, Managed Services based networks, architectures or designs
Previous experience with customer support in a Service Provider environment
Working knowledge and experience with Network Engineering, Planning, Design, Architecture & Integration
Experience with Nokia, Cisco and/or Juniper Layer1, Layer2 and/or Layer3 network elements
Vision and desire to succeed while working with a group of diverse personnel under a corporate construct
Office Environment:
15 % travel may be required
